Martin French follows up on our story about Vimeo vs. YouTube. He covers all the relevant points from HD features to the clean interface to the embed options. His conclusion is the same as ours: why degrade yourself on YouTube when Vimeo is just as free?
He ends by stating “New York City Ballet is backing the wrong horse.“ Maybe not the wrong horse, but certainly the losing one. The appeal of YouTube for NYCB is probably the ubiquity of the site as well as the customized channel page that YouTube allows not-for-profits since it allows them to have a more professional presence on the site. But if professionalism is your concern, why even worry about a custom channel when you can embed your own videos in a custom site? Cedar Lake is using Vimeo to host all of their videos on Glassy Essence and their own homepage. You don’t even notice the video hosting until the end of the video when the embed options appear which is the perfect time to notice, not before.
